It was a sunny day, and Nilo and her little brother Sami were very excited. “Let’s go to the park!” Nilo shouted happily.

Their mom packed a picnic basket with yummy things. She put in an apple (سیب – sib), a banana (موز – moz), some bread (نان – nān), cheese (پنیر – panir), and a big bottle of water (آب – āb).

When they arrived at the park, Nilo spread a blanket on the grass. “Let’s learn Farsi while we eat!” she said.

Nilo picked up the apple and asked, “Do you remember what this is in Farsi?”

“sib!” shouted Sami with a big smile.

“Great job!” said Mom. Then Nilo held up the banana.

Sami laughed and said, “Moz!”

They kept going. “What is water in Farsi?” asked Nilo.

āb!” said Sami proudly.

Then they made a little game. Nilo would say the word in English, and Sami would say it in Farsi.

“Bread?” — “nān!”
«Bread؟»

“Cheese?” — “panir!”
«Cheese؟»

They laughed and played all afternoon, learning Farsi one bite at a time.
